Paige & Thomas
I know Paige through a friend of mine, her Mum Hayley. Every time we saw each other we always mentioned about doing a shoot with her Horse Tom. When I heard Paige was having to retire Tom from his eventing days due to an injury, I thought a photoshoot would be the perfect tribute to the end of an era with some stunning Equine portraits.
Paige has had Tom since she was 15. He is Paige’s first Horse, and they have both worked very hard together, regularly competing in Jumping and Dressage. As a typical Irish Sports Horse, Tom is a strong 17.1hh bay gelding with an exceptional jump. His recent lameness marked the end of his eventing career, but he’s a much-loved Horse in the family and is now enjoying his days relaxing.
The yard where Tom is kept is in the wolds which made for some stunning views as I drove down a steep windy road, with views for miles across Lincolnshire. She was just tacking him up in his bridle as I got there and we discussed going for a walk down the lane towards the village, where Paige hacks Tom out usually. It’s somewhere familiar to Tom so we knew he’d feel comfortable.
The lane was up and down some hills and lined with trees and hedges with no footpaths. It was very quiet; I don’t think one car passed us whilst we were out so it’s a perfect hacking trail. As we got closer to the village we stopped at a few spots for some posed shots and then headed back towards the Yard, where Tom soon picked up his feet knowing we were heading home.
Back at the yard we had a pit stop in a field, where Tom took full advantage of the grass on offer at his feet before returning to his stable for a few more shots in the stable doorway. Paige and I agreed that these were some of our favourites from the shoot.
Paige has owned Tom for 5 years and their bond is clear to see. They have a strong partnership and I know these photos will forever mark a magical journey as Paige and Tom have grown and progressed together.
